It is interesting to read the Bible. Well, for Christians, it is the Word of God that shines our path & it is His words that encourages us when we are down, to guide us when we seek help, and of course shaping our life, how we should be.
Reading 1 Samuel, besides learning how prophet Samuel is called and used by God, we also got to learn how the first king of Israel was introduced. By the way, many have asked how I got the name ‘Samuel’. It is not from my parents, but from my English teacher. Each of our classmates got a Christian name that time. I can’t remember whether our teacher was a Christian, but, I did not even know it the background of ‘Samuel’, knowing we did not have Google many years ago.
Ok. Back to 1 Samuel.
Pastor Michael Koh shared about David’s state of mind when he was facing Goliath. Many of you would have known this very well. Goliath was strong Philistine, but he was defeated by David, a small boy, yet handsome. I am not sure why the Bible recorded ‘handsome’ many times for David, I suppose he must be very handsome, lol.
Saul was pleased with David as Philistines were hard to beat, and he did the job well for him. However, as David’s popularity grew, Saul was jealous about his achievements, that resulted the plan to murder David.
What I want to share with you is that, David a boy or young man who had no fear, because he was living in a different perspective of God (like what Pastor Michael Koh shared), why he ran away from Saul & his soldiers when he came to kill him? You can read about these incidents of killing David in 1 Samuel 18, 19 & 20.
In Daniel 3:25, we read Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were thrown into the furnace to be burned to death because they refused to worship god created by Nebuchadnezzar.
Right now, let’s think. David should have done the same thing. Not running nor hiding, as God will deliver him. Don’t you think so?
