Explore the Potential While They Are Young

Kids' creativity, explore them. Don't stop.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it, Proverbs 22:6.

The context in Proverbs is child, not anyone.  Specifically a child.  It is utmost vital to train a child when he or she is young.  I remember a printing course sharing that shared, a child is almost without any freedom to choose until he or she reaches 8.  I find that partially true, for perhaps until when the child is 4 or 5.  It is crucial for the parents to educate the child to make decision, yes, simple decision right from start.

I seldom work on rewarding our children with things they have done, unless it is a task that really hard to achieve, we will then reward them accordingly.

I enjoy speaking to some of the home caretakers and children participating in Ayam Brand yearly Community Care program.  They shared so much of their stories about how a child is handled, brought up, nurtured etc in an orphanage home.  How the residents who are disable been empowered in their lives, growing up with so much courage for themselves, and others too.

Yesterday, my colleagues were in Seremban, working on Ayam Brand programme with the NGOs and media, they shared with me that the kids participated in the friendly junior chef competition were well prepared.  They came with side dishes, decorative items, table clothes etc.

“We want to win.” A young participant told our team.

The loosing team later also shared with our team that they knew the weakness they had, and will improve on that.

While exploring their potential, do not just stop at motivating them, blindly (like what I have watched in American Idol, insisting she can sing, because her parents said so).  Correct them, rebuke them, guide them and bring them back on track.  Motivate and encourage them along the way.  Hold their hands, when they fell.  Don’t leave them to explore things themselves.  Be with them, but not necessary hand-holding, spoon feeding them all the time, maintain a distance.

I am still learning to not control, or loose control from our children.  Some day, they will find my advice to be old skool, so I have to be on top of things, follow the trends, so I am not left behind.

Kind of tough, because this involves on-going learning.

Let’s pray that God will constantly inspiring us, bring us out of troubles, send us good people, pick ourselves up when we fell, and pray and seek Him, whenever, wherever.

Hallelujah.
