Retna and See Chyn arranged a meet, after 20 years, yep, they have not see each other since their graduation from USM.
Anyway, they met each other again on Facebook, yep. The social network, which almost all of us are on now.
Well, technology. Making things better right?
From where we stayed, Lebuh Clarke, we decided not to drive to Lebuh Pantai, which is about 2.5km away. We started to take a scenic heritage route – walking.
We used the Georgetown trip as a testing ground for our sons and daughter – seeing if they could join us for another away trip end of the year, which involves a lot of walking.
Ok, let’s save the walking route to another blog. Let’s talk about China House.
It is a rather narrow restaurant, I think less than 20 feet, or perhaps less. When See Chyn shown us the entrance, I was taken a back like, kind of small place, how to fit all of us?
My doubt was immediately removed as we walked into the seats the restaurant has allocated for us. It was a long walk till the end.
The decor of the place pretty much keeps to what it may have been in the past, a home, or a warehouse before China House takes over.
According to See Chyn, China House used to operate a hotel as well. But now only focusing on the restaurant.
It has sort of Asia and Western fine dining and lots of pastry selection, which all made in house.
The overall service is great, except they missed 2 of our orders.
Also the delivering of the drinks were kind of slow, took them 30mins or more to send 2 drinks.
Since the place is narrow, so if you are sitting in a large group, your back tend to be blocking whoever walking to and fro the toilets.
The bakery is at the end of the house, which is on the Victoria Street. There is also a pub and a nice pool as well.
Overall, the pricing is a bit on the high side, but I guess you are paying for the experience, which I guess ver rare now.
There is also art gallery upstair, guess the exhibits change from time to time. Currently it is an artist from Hong Kong pushing his arts on his country, which I find it uninspiring. And OMG, the pricing.
Come to China House when you are in Penang, but instead of driving there, you may want to walk there. You will enjoy the scenery along the way.
