Before I start this blog entry, I want to say, I mean no harm nor disrespect to my Muslim friends, yep, I had ‘Babi Guling’ in Ubud, Bali which was highly recommended by almost everyone who knew about me coming to Bali.
Thanks for your recommendation, whoever you are, and you know what, the taste bud for everyone just so different. And, after trying this famous Bali pork dish, I seriously do not like it.
I just came to know today from the Balinese butler of our villa that there are 2 set of pricing for Ibu Oka’s Babi Guling cuisine. Yep, Balinese and, foreigners.
For Balinese, the cost of Babi Guling is IDR20,000 or there about.
Guess how much I have to pay per person just for the Babi Guling? IDR90,000. That is like 4.5 times for the same dish! Is it a rip-off? Yes, it is.
We went to the Ibu Oka outlet at Jalan Raya Mas, and the place was seriously packed, with so many foreigners, us included. There is no servant to handle the seating, pretty much the team leave it to the patrons to find the seats, so good luck with that.
We went to a floor above and found an empty table after waited a short while. When I received the menu, it is pretty simple, set meal with additional side dishes. The food came fast, probably to let all customers to finish the meals fast for higher turn over.
The IDR90,000 per set is excluding the drink, by the way. So expect to pay in the range of IDR120,000 to 130,000 per person eating here. Oh yah, also there will be the 10% government tax too.
Once done eating here, then, you also got to line-up to pay. Yep, a queue is expected.
So the verdict?
