We rented a car in Perth, since we were planning to drive around Perth or at least its vicinities during our annual family vacation.
I could find cars for rent on Expedia but the booking process, just let me put it, so, tedious. I hated it.
And then I went to car rental company instead, and the process, was easy.
We got the car from Avis and did everything online including the deposit, then collected the car from the airport.
The nice thing about renting a car from Perth, it is about the same as in Malaysia, except – in Malaysia, there is a limited mileage and also in Malaysia, you generally got to pay a lot more for nicer cars. So I always ended up with national cars, which some of them could be crappo, not that the cars are bad, but the maintenance.
So we were glad that we hired a car, only thing I dislike about Australia, the speed trap cameras, they are everywhere!
Also the parking in the CBD, just so expensive.
The upside of driving around in Perth, the road conditions and signages on the roads, just so good!
We saw many kangaroos while heading to The Pinnacle, and I think it is amazing how well the nation maintains such wonderful roads and conditions along the drive way, which we did not see much of the development, and one challenge for us which I think was my mistake, did not fuel up before leaving CBD, and I ended paying extra high fuel price in Cervantes.
Also we had a lobster dinner at the diner, which also ran the petrol kiosk 🙂
If you are going to Perth and only planning to stay in the CBD and hang out there alone, then no point to rent a car, the buses and trains are working great there.
Oh, one last thing, the highway, or freeway, they are free.
