This Lion is not for everyone

Apple's latest claimed world's best desktop

When Apple made its latest operating system, Lion available for online purchase via its Mac AppStore on July 21, 2011, I was eager to try it.  Because, I was excited to try the Apple’s latest OS.  Besides that, the online download costs USD29.99, which I think was much reasonable than the earlier Snow Leopard upgrade – RM189.

It took more than 14 hours for the entire download process to be completed.  Then, it took another 1 hour plus for the installation to be done.  My MacBook Pro was in idle mode throughout the working hours, I was using the MacBook that time.

When the upgrade process completed, it took me another 30minutes to familiarise with the new features such as LaunchPad, MissionControl, Preview, Safari, Mail etc.

Of all the new features in Lion, the one I like the most is the Mail.  It is so intuitive compares with the predecessor.  However, it crashes, often.  That is the bad news.

More down sides.

The starting of the MBP took more than 3 minutes to reach the login page.  And more than 4 minutes to shut down, or sometimes, it just frozen, without shutting down.

The Lion OS also makes my MBP to have occasional desktop freeze in between, which was kind of annoying when I was rushing to complete my work ASAP.

Besides having the Time Machine backup to the office Time Capsule, I have another NAS Time Machine backup by Buffalo, which is also the place where I stored most of the songs & movies.  Guess what, with Lion, I could not connect to the drive anymore.  Apple has block some NAS drive mounting.  Seriously, I was totally pissed off when I knew this.  Anyway, there is a fix which requires one to launch the Terminal to change some settings.  I got it work, but this is not cool, Apple.

For business continuity, my advice about Lion Upgrade, maybe you want to skip it until a better and stable released of Lion OS.
